KOKUYO DESIGN AWARD 2023

KOKUYO DESIGN AWARD 2023にデザイナーとして参画したプロジェクト。
自分はテーマ”EMBRACE”に対して様々な視点を大切にしたいという思いを込めた。
難解で抽象的なテーマに対して、古くから存在するガラスドーム標本に新たな価値を加えた。
ベース部はコクヨの管理する結の森の木材を用い、ドームはガラス製でできている。
コンセプトから造形、発注、製造管理まで一貫して担当したプロジェクト。

This is a project in which I participated as a designer for the KOKUYO DESIGN AWARD 2023. I put my thoughts on the theme of "EMBRACE", and wanted to value various viewpoints. I added new value to the old glass dome specimen, which has existed for a long time, in response to the difficult and abstract theme. The base is made of wood from the Yui no Mori forest managed by Kokuyo, and the dome is made of glass. The project was handled from concept to modeling, ordering, and manufacturing management.

テーマ“EMBRACE”に対して多様な視点を持つことが大切だと仮説を立てた。
この仮説を形に落とし込むことにおいて、正面からの標本の見え方と上面からの見え方に違いを持たせ、新たな視点の存在を生み出すことを目的に拡大鏡の機能を持たせた。
ドームの内外の曲率を検証し、ガラスという素材の製造プロセスの中で制作が可能な曲率にて形状を作り出している。

I hypothesized that it is important to have diverse perspectives on ”EMBRACE”. I created a function of a magnifying glass in order to create a new viewpoint by giving a difference between the way the specimen is seen from the front and the way it is seen from the top. The curvature of the inside and outside of the dome was verified, and the shape was created with a curvature that could be produced within the manufacturing process of the glass material.

機能を実現するための詳細な寸法が決まっていく中で造形が出来上がっていた。
トロフィーとしての高級感やディテールに関してはノイズにならないようにと細かい配慮をして細部に施している。

Modeling was done while determining the detailed dimensions to realize the function. Careful attention was paid to the details so that the details would not become noise against the luxuriousness of the trophy.
